Story overview

In 1940s Shanghai, the fearsome Axe Gang rules through violence. Two bumbling small-time crooks, Sing and Bone, dream of joining their ranks but instead anger powerful enemies. As chaos erupts, unexpected heroes with remarkable kung fu skills emerge from ordinary places, leading to epic confrontations between good and evil.

What parents need to know

This action-comedy contains frequent cartoonish but intense martial arts violence: characters are punched, kicked, thrown through walls, and hit with weapons (axes, knives, projectiles), often with exaggerated sound effects and some blood. There is moderate strong language (including uses of 'f**k' and 's**t') and brief sexual references. The tone is mostly humorous, but some scenes may be intense for younger viewers due to stylized fighting, villainous characters, and chaotic action sequences.

Given the R rating for violence and language, this film is generally appropriate for viewers aged 16 and up, who can distinguish its over-the-top comedy from real-world violence. Parents should consider their child's sensitivity to action and crude humor.
